Day 7 : 1 Week

Categories: Uncategorized

Ok so this week wasn’t quite a good one for me. I started out real well but manage to fill myself up in the weekend. At least tomorrow is a brand new start. I will weigh myself tomorrow to see what my new weight will be.

Today I ate two hotdog sandwiches (460 each) and nachos (500).  In the evening I ate rice and pork (500), an egg (75) and 4 pcs of choc nut (160). Will compute this tomorrow.

Day 6 : Thou Shall Not Splurge Pt 2

Categories: Uncategorized

The last two days have been both hectic and hungry. I haven’t really put concern with what I ate. Today I had rice soup for breakfast along with scallop dumplings in my chili-hoisin sauce and coke. I had chinese stir fried noodles for lunch with ranch dressed salad and then had 5 pcs of choc-nut. Before dinner I had 3 more pcs of choc nut.

Today:

8 pcs of choc nut (320)

rice soup (150)

scallop dumplings (100)

stir fry noodles (600)

ranch dressing (110)

Day 5 : Thou Shall Not Splurge

Categories: Uncategorized

It was a busy day today and I’m even quite amazed that I can still blog. It was also particularly bad which caused to binge ..a bit. I ate 2 almond croissants today (500) and then ate beef with rice at lunch (500), for snack I had some Sour cream pringles and some peaches (400) which puts me on my daily allowed calories. I will most likely eat some salad later in case I get hungry.

Day 4: Going Back to Square 1

Categories: Uncategorized

As of this writing, it’s already 12:54 AM, and the start of day 4 but I had just come home to a really huge meal which pretty much sets me back to square 1 - but not really. I had consumed 950 calories for day 3 before dinner. But come 7pm I literally splurged at a party.

It began with some veggie mix (50), some chinese noodles (150), and a chicken (75). I was okay at that point. But I had a slice of cake after (200), and a big bunch of soda (400). And then I ate pineapple topped with chocolate (200), some melon(200), a strawberry(50), a bunch of grapes(60), steak(400), rice (500), and ice cream (1000)…

That’s a whopping 3385 calories.

Now I might be exaggerating my computations since I ate the fruits altogether, I only ate half the ice cream, and I was careful with the rice as well. But I guess it’s better not to take chances. As of 12noon of today, I still haven’t eaten anything. That plan is to eat salad for dinner with hardboiled egg (you can tell it’s my favorite) and honey mustard dressing. If I can keep it below 800 today, tomorrow I would be alright.

Overall I’m spreading that 3000 calories over three days and giving myself an allowance of only 1000 cal to consume per day in order to lose about 1000 calories, and about 2300 for the week. When I weigh on day 8 I hope to lose 1 pound. But honestly I think I already lost 2.

Today:

2PM: 3 pcs, 1 inch Beef chunks (160)

2-7PM: Chips (250), soda (200)

630PM: Fried pork bits (150)

I’ve had 760 total by dinner time which means I can only use about 240 calories left for the day in order to make that 1000 calorie boundary I set for myself. I’m boiling egg again (75) and salad and honey mustard (150). Looks like that will be my last meal of the day.

Day 3: Reaching 1/2 of a Pound

Categories: Uncategorized

Adding my two-day totals, it looks like I’ve lost 1000-1200calories so far. If I eat below 1000calories today, I might just go half a pound down. This thing is a day to day endeavor and I really think that keeping an online journal, much more that nobody reads it, keeps myself conscious of what I’m eating.

Today:

1130AM: stew: 3 chunks of beef (160), half a potato(150), some carrots(60), egg(75). about450 calories, maybe 500. =P

1134: Also.. it’s Saturday, and later I’m gonna go to a party so let’s see if today is a good day for diet. Me thinks I may have to splurge on salad for the rest of the day.

5:40PM Been snacking on chips (400) and diet pepsi. also got 3 itty-bitty strips of pork from my mom’s dish.(50) That’s another 450 calories for me. And I still have to go to a party later on.

Day 2: Losing 1/3 of a Pound

Categories: Uncategorized

If you’ve never heard of the saying “all diets work as long as you stick to it,” well I have. You’d all but to look at the television to see just how much money is into the weight loss industry but you’ll never lose it unless you have a commitment to change your lifestyle. I began one yesterday and the scale was lower today by a pound.

Now I don’t exactly trust the scales too much (not even if they’re digital), I just love looking at my weight as it goes down. By yesterday’s computation, I’ve already lost 1/5 of a pound (700 Calories) so today, I plan on making that 1/3 of a pound.

Tying it altogether, I guess you have to pick a system that works for you. I resorts to counting how much weight I’ve lost everyday to keep myself inspired, rather than have a long term goal a sulk after the third day. Let’s see if I make it good…

Today:
11AM: Strawberry Granola bar.. 90Cal.

230PM: Potato salad, 400Cal. Half a sub, 200Cal., some bread, 100Cal. Damn! I ate alot for lunch.

3PM: I can only eat 500-700Cal. worth of food today. Also, I think this daily update thing allows me to catch just how much more I need to consume for the day! Yay!

6-9PM: Been snacking on chips and Diet Pepsi while cooking dinner: 400Cal.

9PM: Dinner time with relatives: Beef stew, hard boiled egg, garlic with spinach. 600Cal.

Total calories consumed: 1800. Lost: 300

Rating: It’s not much but my body will still benefit from this.

Day 1: Not Another Diet Journal

Categories: Uncategorized

I had meant to write my own diet journal for awhile to keep track of what I eat, partly as a way to keep myself health conscious, but also because having a vegetarian food blog doesn’t seem to give me enough material. So I’ changing habits.. and MouthMag will now include my daily activity, including exercise and diet.

Given that I should have a target, as with all the men and women who’ve done this before, 50 lbs in 6 months sounds ludicrous enough, but still very reachable. It’s the 26th of June today, so this quest ends the day after Christmas. It could very well be a Christmas/New Year’s gift to myself.

The story of my weight has been well written this year, that after losing 40 lbs since 2006 (from 260 to 220), I seem to have a hard time shredding the weight. The problem (1) I plateaud, (2) I’m just lazy. Having this diet blog sort of keeps things in perspective - plus I’m the type of person who gets things done when I really put my mind to it. I am currently 210 lbs., 215 to be conservative. By December, I hope to see 159.

The math of course starts with how much calories I burn everyday. One’s Basal Metabolic Rate is roughly 10 times his weight - that makes mine 2100/day. To lose 50 lbs in 180 days, I need to be going at a rate of 1 lb. every three days. And with a pound valued at 3500 calories, it seems I can only eat 800-1000 calories per day to be faithful to this diet.

As far as exercise, I think 500 cal. a day on the treadmill would allow me to consume a little more than my supposed calorie intake (compromising already… lolz!) I swear I’ve done this before.. but at any rate, goodluck to me!

Today:
10AM: 2 pcs. of lumpia and a wedge of cheese. 100Cal.

11AM: 3 nacho chips w/ cheese.. another 100Cal.

1PM: 1 chicken drumstick, fried with batter. 235Cal. Fuck!

2PM: I guess I should sleep so I’ll just wake up by dinner…

4PM: Had Stew. 2 chunks of beef, some carrots and potatoes. Plus Hoisin and Chili sauce. Approx. 250cal. I have about 200cal left for the day..

730PM: Had boiled egg, salad with honey mustard dressing (approx. 200 Cal), and then had 5 pcs of lumpia with the Chili-Hoisin sauce mix. 400 Cal.

8PM: Getting ready for the treadmill. Total intake for the day: approx 1285Cal. Should make 400 on the treadmill today.

Rating: I think I started Day 1 pretty well.

Man Loses 80 Lbs Eating at McDonalds

Categories: News

Apparently the guy on the subway diet had it bad coz Chris Coleson lost 80 lbs on a McDonald’s diet. Losing 80 pounds is already a feat in itself, but losing it just eating McDonald’s for 6 months.. da eff! The catch was that Chris skipped regular meals such as burgers and fries, and only ate salads and wraps.

The 5′8, 42 year old businessman now only weighs 199 after topping the scales at 278 in December. That’s quite quick if you as me, but irony is still that it’s McDonalds.

“The story goes back to last year and the inspiration behind it was the guys and girls from Wounded Warrior Project, I sat down with my wife and decided I needed to drop a significant amount of weight for health reasons, and told my wife that. And she looked at me with some skepticism, and that upset me. So I said, ‘You know, I can do this eating only at McDonald’s.’ It was the craziest idea I could think of at that moment.”

Coleson also said that no sponsorship was ever offered by McDonald’s and that neither had he been in contact with the fast food giant.

Vegetarians Are Hot?

Categories: Uncategorized

The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) had just concluded an online poll to name 2008’s sexiest vegetarian and Leona Lewis was voted sexiest woman, and Red Hot Chili Peppers front man Anthony Kiedis was voted sexiest male. No I am not on the list but I plan to be in it by 2010.

Other famously hout people vying for the title were: Alicia Silverstone, Alec Baldwin, Alyssa Milano, Carrie Underwood, Chelsea Clinton, Forest Whitaker, Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, Jennie Garth, Paul McCartney, Natalie Portman, Rachael Leigh Cook and many more. So as you can see, I’m in good company. =P

Seitan

Categories: Uncategorized

Dont be fooled by the evil sounding name, Seitan is actually wheat gluten that is a good meat substitute. I’ve bought a couple of seitan to help get me out of my lust for meat, and I would admit it taste’s nothing like steak. But from a vegetarian’s perspective, well.. there’s nothing like steak. =P

So far I’ve enjoyed making it into Chinese Kung Pao Chicken - with seitan as the chicken of course. You mix in some bellpepper and some nuts, plus the instant kung pao mix available in Asian stores, and that’s it. Another instant vegan meal for you.

If you do not know where to get Seitan, you might want to try Asian stores and look for the brand name Companion. They have all sorts of meat-flavored seitan products including Abalone, Duck, Pork etc. I’ve only bought the regular ones though (salted) because I tend to make it with my own dishes.
